China hits back at Australia over claims Beijing is spreading false narratives in SI

On Saturday China  slammed a recent report by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, which claimed that China is attempting to "spread false narratives and suppress information on a range of topics" in the Solomon Islands. Chinese authorities said such move is an ineffective attempt to stir trouble.

There is no doubt that the Chinese Communist Party is all over Solomon Islands influencing its decision making, and its domestic policies. This is a violation of all diplomatic decorum where domestic issues are left to the governing bodies, not foreign entities. In the months after booting China out of the country, China wanted to ensure no one in the country had any connection to Taiwan. No only did the government of Sogavare pushed hard against any provinces that still remained loyal to Taiwan, it was doing so at the best of Beijing. Sogavare had attacked the Malaita Province, and attempted to unseat the pro-Taiwanese premier Suidani. The Suidani government was shaken and infiltrated, but remained intact. Most elected Malaitans remained loyal to Suidani and wanted their premier to do what he was doing because they supported it. This infuriated no only China but the SIG.

Additionally, the Chinese government affected Sogavare government in profound ways. They funded Sogavare's fight against a NCM, a violation of foreign interference in domestic politics of the country. He went on to win his fight against Matthew Wale. Later on, evidence of Chinese money in play in the country's domestic came to light that the Chinese government had paid all MPs who backed Sogavare to the tunes of hundreds of thousands each, and millions of dollars in total.

Furthermore, China was behind Sogavare's recent push to extend his term to another year there causing a constitutional crisis, which he got away with it. In a country that lacked government watchdogs, such move was seen as blatantly unconstitutional, but Sogavare got away with it. But what is China saying?

China has always upheld the principles of mutual respect, equal treatment, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, openness and inclusiveness. Read more

These Chinese mouthpieces should know that "mutual respects" and "equal treatment" have no place in the domestic affairs of the country. But we know from China's dealings with foreign government, and that is they are in to benefit from it directly, and they achieved that by weakening the government of the host nation by overwhelming it with money they can't pay back, or burden it with so much that debt that the host country cannot afford to letdown. In other words, the host country is beholden to the Chinese government - they must do what the Chinese said. This "mutual benefit" is a code word for - we give you tons of money, you do what we want. This simply validated what the Australians are whining about.

Sogavare lied to the world

SOGAVARE LIED AT THE UNGA The Prime Minister of SI spoke at the United Nations General Assembly, attacking two important key issues he believes that are hurting his government and SI.  First, he went after what he called an effort on 'Social Media' to spread disinformation about his 'China – SI' security pact, which he signed earlier this year. In it, Sogavare claimed that most of the things said about him and his new friends, the Chinese Communist Party, were done deliberately to mislead his country and the world. As a result of that, he said the misleading information led to riots and looting, as we'd seen at the end of 2021.  Secondly, Sogavare attacked – indirectly – Australia and its allies such as the US and Britain. Choosing a foreign partner is the right of a sovereign, independent state. He argued that his government's partnership with the Chinese government is solely for the interest of the country, and decried any perception that SI was becoming an a...

Sogavare is a puppet Prime Minister

In his past three terms as a prime minister, he was considered a stubborn leader who would bully his ministers and backbenchers to bend to his will. During his three terms, he lost the majority of MPs, each time he was removed from the office of the PM and replaced by new PMs via secret ballot.  The Question is now is - why is he still in power?  The answer is, Mr. Sogavare is backed by Chinese money. The first trial of his Chinese-back government occurred at the end of 2021 when Parliament met to consider a No-Confidence Motion filed by the Leader of Opposition, Hon. Matthew Wale. After screaming and shouting on the floor of parliament led by Sogavare, the vote was heavily in favor of the Mr. Sogavare. He decisively defeated the NCM giving him time to implement his Chinese-backing agenda.

Election Deferred to 2023

Solomon Times: visit this site There has been a flurry of international media and commentary attention on Solomon Islands in recent months. Since the news broke of Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare’s intention to sign a security agreement with the People’s Republic of China, scrutiny of his every move and word has been intense. There have been two recent developments that have caused yet more scrutiny of the Sogavare government - the government’s intention to delay next year’s federal election and moratorium on some international ships from its ports. Once again, too much of the reporting and commentary casts these events through the overly narrow lens of geo-strategic competition. The interplay of domestic political dynamics is overlooked or oversimplified, yet it is only by understanding these dynamics that a full picture of what is happening in Solomon Islands can be drawn.
