SOGAVARE LIED AT THE UNGA
The Prime Minister of SI spoke at the United Nations General Assembly, attacking two important key issues he believes that are hurting his government and SI.
First, he went after what he called an effort on 'Social Media' to spread disinformation about his 'China – SI' security pact, which he signed earlier this year. In it, Sogavare claimed that most of the things said about him and his new friends, the Chinese Communist Party, were done deliberately to mislead his country and the world. As a result of that, he said the misleading information led to riots and looting, as we'd seen at the end of 2021.
Secondly, Sogavare attacked – indirectly – Australia and its allies such as the US and Britain. Choosing a foreign partner is the right of a sovereign, independent state. He argued that his government's partnership with the Chinese government is solely for the interest of the country, and decried any perception that SI was becoming an authoritarian government. He then bragged about the development of the country's sporting infrastructure as the country prepped for the upcoming Pacific Games (PGs) in the country. "It will be the first time in the history of SI to host the event," he bragged.
But there were things he deliberately missed in his speech. For starters, Mr. Sogavare is the leader of disinformation. What he said leading up to 2019 and thereafter were filed with half-truths and lies. For instance, he denied the security pact ideas, but then pledged to punish the “whistleblowers” who leaked the proposal to the international media. He also didn't mention the fact that the 'Security Pact' signed between the two country, gave armed Chinese police and the military direct access to SI when the need arises in the future. As such, the partnership is not just an economic partnership or the need to develop the country, but it emerged as a military partnership as well. This move had shaken the region, as it should. The need for a security pact wasn't there; in other words, the justifications of the pact weren't there. SI doesn't have any enemy at all, and the internal social unrest and things like that, should be treated as domestic issues that must be handled by the law and order apparatus of the nation. Agreeing to a Chinese security pact was a seriously flawed idea, and Australia and its partners have all the right to express reservations.
Furthermore, allowing the Communist Chinese Party to run the show in the country, and attacking anyone that dared to challenge the partnership; branding the opposition as an enemy, instead of treating them as a necessary component of the country's checks-and-balance system, presents a horrible public image for Sogavare. There are important long-term diplomatic partners in the country such as Australia, Britain, and Japan, and yet they never interfered in the local politics or domestic affairs of the country the way the Chinese Communist Party does right now in the country. The Chinese are in SI since 2019, and the way they interfere and influence Sogavare and his cohorts can be seen and felt. One of the biggest Chinese influence in the country is the deferment of the Solomon Islands election. Sogavare claims that the deferment would be necessary to the PGs and to the nation as whole. Millions of dollars, we believe, were given to MPs by the Chinese government to conduct sham surveys in the country to show whether people supported the idea or not. These were all lies perpetuated on the people. How? Sogavare knew at the time he had the number to vote in support of the deferment, but he wanted to show the world that his country wanted it. As predicted, his MPs returned to Honiara and spoke highly of the deferment, claiming that their constituents wanted it. That's what people called "Political Bullshitting!" Since voters don't have any direct involvement or vote in the process, the idea of a national survey was simply a sham!
Here are basic truths to the matter:
1. Sogavare doesn't trust his police – the very people who failed to stop the riot of 2006 and 2021. He wanted armed Chinese police and military to back him up should a coup or out-of-control unrest takes place, as it did in 2021.
2. The Chinese Communist Party in China is investing millions of dollars in the country, and there's fear among the top officials in Beijing of a new government that could kick the Chinese representatives out of the country before the PGs.
3. Sogavare is using the CCP to leverage his positions with Australia and the United States. As such, the Australian government is now dancing to a different tune. Canberra has been playing an active role in helping SI's police, and also pledging support for the development and sporting programs in the country. Canberra announced funds for the PGs and also pledged financial support for the upcoming elections.
4. Sogavare and the CPP want Sogavare to remain in power, and so his coalition is funded heavily by the Chinese government. In 2021, as Honiara went up in flames, Sogavare's coalition remained intact until someone revealed each MP received hundreds of thousands of dollars to remain in the coalition. This direct corrupt financial deals between these two governments is the hallmark of a government that is rotten to the core.
Enemies to all
Finally, Mr. Sogavare claimed that his government is "friends to all and enemy to none." Yet, he'd attacked and created enemies from within his country – dividing the country into segments of "enemies" and treating his opposition as enemies. And recently, he'd refused to allow a US Coastguard ship from refueling in Honiara, and then lied about the way it was done. He then he later issued a memo to US and other embassies that stated that no foreign vessels are allowed to enter SI's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). This is, we believe, a policy driven by the Chinese government. China, Australia, Japan, the Philippines, and the United States are in a diplomatic row over the control of the 'South China Sea'.
Sogavare has successfully created more enemies than friends!
